AG Village Summer Concert Series Spotlights Bluegrass on July 27th

The Honeysuckle Possums to Perform - Rooster Creek Tavern Sponsors

The Show’s Nonprofit Focus will be on the Bluegrass Music Society of the Central Coast

The Arroyo Grande Village Summer Concert Series focuses on Bluegrass on Sunday, July 27th, with the infectious music of The Honeysuckle Possums! Join your friends at 1:00pm at the Rotary Bandstand in the Village of Arroyo Grande for the festivities which will also shine a spotlight on the concert sponsor The Rooster Creek Tavern. The featured nonprofit focus will be on the Bluegrass Music Society of the Central Coast. The Arroyo Grande Village Summer Concert Series is known for presenting the most eclectic and diverse musical offerings of all the regional summer series. A fun raffle and free tours of historical buildings in Heritage Square Park will also be provided. This free Series is presented by the Arroyo Grande Village Improvement Association and the City of Arroyo Grande Recreation Services Department. Rabobank again joins these organizations as the Featured Series Sponsor.

The Honeysuckle Possums will provide the musical entertainment for this show. This group is a high-energy, all-woman band, playing bluegrass, originals, and old-timey mountain music. They have been together for several years and recently released their debut album. Their music has taken them all over California and they continue to gain praise for their beautiful vocals, carefully crafted harmonies, and spirited style. Their performance at the Old Time Fiddlers Convention and the Parkfield Bluegrass Festival elicited rave reviews. The three lead singers, Nicola Gordon (fiddle and ukulele); Susan Marie Reeves (guitar, strumstick, and ukelele) and Rebecca Troon (banjo, fiddle, bodhran, and tin whistle) are all accomplished songwriters. Lisa Macker plays stand up bass and mandolin while joining in on vocals and harmonies. Ruth Alpert is the band’s dancing percussionist…an Appalachian-style flat-footer, who seems to float as she makes it easy for the crowd to dance and clap along. The Possums intention is “to create and share bliss through music”. Their collective joy onstage is delightful, and their performances are carried on a strong current of love and friendship. “Possum” audience members often comment on how that energy is positively contagious!

The Bluegrass Music Society of the Central Coast will be the Featured Nonprofit during the show. The BMSCC formed in 2006 to promote and preserve bluegrass, old-time, gospel and traditional music on the Central Coast. BMSCC produces events, sponsors programs and networks with traditional music enthusiasts throughout California. The organization promotes local and regional bands, serves as a resource for music-related professionals and supports acoustic music venues. BMSCC sponsors jams, events and educational programming. Members proudly produce the Parkfield Bluegrass Festival every Mothers Day weekend in picturesque Parkfield, CA. where they provide four days of concerts, workshops, jamming and children's programming. The 2014 Parkfield line-up included grammy-award winner Peter Rowan, Central Coast favorites, the Cache Valley Drifters, as well as the Honeysuckle Possums. The Parkfield Festival features extensive children's programming including the Bluegrass and Old Time Music Camp for Kids. BMSCC is an all-volunteer organization and anyone interested in getting involved or support traditional music is welcome to join. More information is available on its websites: and

The Concert Sponsor for this show is the Rooster Creek Tavern. “Rooster Creek” which opened in early 2012 has enlivened the restaurant scene in the Village! This is a special place in the Village for people to come together with friends and enjoy delicious food, refreshing drinks and good company in a lively yet comfortable setting. It is located in the heart of the Arroyo Grande Village immediately across the historic Swinging Bridge from Heritage Square Park and the Rotary Bandstand. Concert Attendees are invited to gather at Rooster Creek after the show!

Employees from the overall series sponsor Rabobank will be on hand at the show. Rabobank has supported the Village Summer Concert Series since its inception in 2006 and its charming representatives greet concert attendees at every show with smiles, free waters and surprises! Major media sponsors for the 2014 Series are KSBY-TV, KSMX - 1240 AM, and the family of Tolosa Press papers: the Coast News, the SLO City News and the Bay News.

The South County Historical Society's famous all beef hot dogs, Doc Burnstein’s ice cream, popcorn, drinks and more are available at the shows. Special raffles benefitting the Featured Nonprofit Organizations and various displays will further enliven the concerts. Music fans can also explore Heritage Square Museums, antique shops and restaurants in the historic Arroyo Grande Village.
