Aromatic Whites at the Thanksgiving Table
Claiborne & Churchill Winery brings Alsatian-style wines home for the holidays

November 4, 2014 – (San Luis Obispo, CA) Claiborne & Churchill Winery, in the Central Coast’s Edna Valley appellation, has a 30-year history of producing just the sort of aromatic, food-friendly white wines that are perfectly at-home on any Thanksgiving table. With their famous Dry Riesling and Dry Gewurztraminer, C&C Winemaker Coby Parker-Garcia and his team find an ideal balance between crisp acidity and luxurious aromatics that pair seamlessly with any sumptuous feast.

Claiborne & Churchill 2013 Dry Gewürztraminer | $22

The exotic notes of C&C’s flagship wine play lovely counterpoint with many Thanksgiving dishes, especially those that include earthy and herbal sage – a sage-rubbed turkey, perhaps, or sage and sausage stuffing. On the nose, intense aromatics of grapefruit and blossoms open to a palate reflecting tropical flavors of pineapple and guava. As usual, the C&C Gewürz is very dry (about 0.4% R.S.), so that it can be enjoyed as a dinner wine as well as an aperitif.

Claiborne & Churchill 2013 Dry Riesling | $22

Riesling, once a vastly underrated variety, is just beginning to be appreciated for its incredible versatility and charm. C&C’s 2013 Dry Riesling is particularly well-suited to the Thanksgiving table with notes of citrus, honey and Asian pear framed by elegant acids and only a wisp of residual sugar (0.55%) – perfect with any manner of green bean casserole, sweet potatoes, or buttery Parker House Rolls.

About Claiborne & Churchill Winery
Founded in 1983 by Claiborne (Clay) Thompson and Fredericka Churchill, Claiborne & Churchill Winery is a small, family-owned winery devoted to producing Alsatian-style wines in California’s pastoral Edna Valley appellation. After successful careers in academia, Clay and Fredericka established C&C with a special focus on the dry, fruity, and food-friendly wines of eastern France’s Alsace region, namely Pinot Noir, Gewürztraminer and Riesling. Sourced from cool-climate vineyards that support these varietals’ naturally high acidity and elegance, C&C wines have won critical and popular acclaim for over 30 years. In 2007 Clay passed his position as Winemaker to Coby Parker-Garcia, who continues to emphasize minimal manipulation of both fruit and wine today. C&C’s straw bale cellar and tasting room – the first of its kind in California – is open to the public every day from 11 A.M. to 5 P.M. at 2649 Carpenter Canyon Road in San Luis Obispo, California.
