Hearst Castle® Launches new mobile application for iPhone

San Simeon, California: Launching today on iTunesApp Store is Hearst Castle’s new mobile application for iPhone, “[Hearst Castle]” The App allows visitors to experience Hearst Castle from a completely new perspective. Learn about William Randolph Hearst’s legacy at San Simeon with never before seen images, stories, audio recordings and video curated by Hearst Castle’s own historians. The app is currently featured as a “best new app” on the App Store with purchases supporting the Friends of Hearst Castle non-profit organization.

“Hearst Castle” was developed and designed by Guidekick in San Luis Obispo. Guidekick worked in tandem with Hearst Castle historian and author Victoria Kastner to create hours of historical content. Kastner is also the narrating voice within the app, diving into detail on many of Hearst Castle’s treasures and stories. It has beautifully laid out content which blends the best of Hearst era art deco with contemporary iOS 7 design.

For visitors at Hearst Castle, a whole new experience awaits. Once on location, visitors can access “Explore” mode, a location based experience that allows visitors to explore and learn about the amazing artifacts on the hilltop as they’re standing next to them. An example of what a visitor might find is Sekhmet, a remarkable 3,500 year old Egyptian statue. Hearst Castle museum director Hoyt Fields explains, “With our app, visitors passing by Sekhmet will be able to learn about everything from Egyptian Mythology, to the diorite stone it was carved from, to Hearst’s trip and fascination with Egypt. We’ll show you blueprints, historic photographs of the assembly, and beautiful modern shots showcasing the precision detail.” Sekhmet is one example of the many amazing stories available.

The app creates an entirely new reason for fans of the Hearst Castle to visit again and see what has been uncovered.

Many more updates are planned for the coming months, and Android support is targeted for next year.
