San Luis Obispo, CA — Martin Resorts has announced the opening of the new pedestrian bridge that extends coastal access in Pismo Beach. The bridge connects Shore Cliff Hotel and Pismo Lighthouse Suites along the coastline, offering unobstructed views of Pismo Beach and the Pismo Beach Pier.

This project is the culmination of many years of work with the California Coastal Commission and the City of Pismo Beach and included rigorous environmental and archaeological reviews. The trail easement was donated to the City of Pismo Beach on July 3, 2019, to ensure that it would remain accessible in perpetuity for future lifetimes.

“Our collaboration with the City of Pismo Beach makes the project a classic public-private partnership that benefits citizens and tourists and the generations that will follow,” Noreen Martin, President and Owner of Martin Resorts, said. “We’re really proud of this effort.”

“As for Martin Resorts, we have benefited as have all of the region’s tourist-driven businesses from the beauty of the coastline, and we feel a strong obligation to protect the coastline and provide the public as much access as possible,” Martin said.

The bridge was the final piece of the California Coastal Trail restoration project that began in 2015 by Martin Resorts which extended the Coastal Trail by a mile. The goal of the restoration project was to maximize public access to the beach, protect the scenic corridor and the natural environment, and improve and provide contiguous accessibility to the California Coastal Trail.

The work was divided into twleve individual site projects. These projects included the repair of bluff-top walkways, additional beach access, and a pedestrian bridge. The projects utilized specific materials that look like the natural coastline and improve the beauty of the area, while protecting valued coastal wildlife environments and nesting of endangered species. All of the work took place between Inn at the Cove and Pismo Lighthouse Suites in Pismo Beach.
