An Evening at the Cass House

With the likes of Sunset Magazine to Luxury Link toting the ever elegant Cass House, it would be remiss to not experience what this little coastal haven has to offer.

As a San Luis Obispo local, I pride myself on my adventurous palate, enjoying our foodie destination with the best of them. However, the Cass House provides an unparalleled experience not only in fine dining, but in luxury accommodations.

I have been lucky enough to dine here a handful of times and thanks to a fiancé, who knows where to celebrate getting engaged, stay the night too. The Cass House has a history rich in family, one of which is still very true of the proprietors today. Originally owned by Captain James Cass and his family in the 1860’s it is now in the loving hands of the husband and wife duo Jensen and Grace Lorenzen; the Head Chef and Inn Keeper, respectively.

The hotel is steps from the beach and heralds the antiquity of the property in each of its 5 beautifully furnished rooms and larger bungalow, just off the main building. Each suite comes equipped with modern touches such as flat screen televisions and complimentary internet to satisfy all your creature comforts.

If you aren’t already enamored by this decadent inn, dine there. The Cass House is truly farm to table, with the menu changing up almost daily coinciding with the seasonal markets. The restaurant is based entirely (save a few exceptional items) on local sources and the garden based on the property. Chef Lorenzen has mastered the art of eating with his 4 course prix fixe menu - each bite more decadent than the next.

And for libations? Each dish is perfectly paired with old world and new world wines alike. Plan to spend a luxurious couple of hours at your table enjoying the festive ambiance. Located roughly half way between Los Angeles and San Francisco, this intimate boutique hotel is the ultimate retreat for unwinding and getting caught up in the SLO life.
