The Atascadero setting is unique: on a slight rise overlooking a beautiful lake. This concert series seems to attract fewer teenagers. Instead, the demographic seems to skew more towards older couples with grown kids (or at least ones they can trust to leave at home.) Many people like to dance in the area in front of the band.
Almost everybody brings a picnic dinner and wine or beer. Note; you can buy what looks to be a very good BBQ dinner there, and wine and beer are also available for purchase.
Many families do bring their young children - there is a popular playground near the concert area, so they kids can play while the parents listen (or dance) to the music, while keeping an eye on them.
Housekeeping details: Concerts are 6:30 - 8:30 PM. There is plenty of parking. Evenings are usually comfortably warm. Do bring a blanket or low back chairs for sitting on the grass. There are some picnic tables and in-place BBQ's available a little ways away from the music area, if you want to have a picnic dinner beforehand. You might also want to begin your visit to the nearby "Charles Paddock Zoo".
