Avila Beach Tequila Festival
at the Avila Beach Golf Resort

A 3-day weekend calls for a 3-day event series - we can't argue with that!

Home to San Luis Obispo County's most notable Memorial Day Weekend festivities for over 20 years, the Avila Beach Golf Resort is excited to announce a new Saturday line-up: the first annual Avila Beach Tequila Festival, to be held Saturday, May 26th from 12pm-4pm.

Positioned on the curve of the San Luis Bay, the Resort's expansive beachfront event lawn boasts a massive, velvety playground on the water's edge - pure tequila tasting paradise where event-goers will revel against the brilliant backdrop of Avila's quaint seaside town, rolling coastal hills, and (of course!) its iconic and photogenic palm trees.

For anxious fans of summer, the Avila Beach Golf Resort appoints a jump start to the season with the biggest beach bash of 2012, targeting an attendance of 3,000+ guests and a musical program worthy of a stadium. Ozomatli and a favorite Central Coast Mariachi band will hit the stage among others throughout the day. In launching the first and only Tequila Festival the Central Coast has to offer, the Avila Beach Golf Resort sets itself apart from a festival scene filled to the brim with various food and wine related events staged in the area. The only pairings you'll find here, are margaritas and flip-flops.

Brought to you by the organizers of "From the Barrel," a premiere bourbon and whiskey speakeasy-styled tasting event launched in Spring 2011 at the Santa Margarita Ranch (it sold out within the first week of its first year and is returning to the Ranch this March-for more info visit www.fromthebarrel.net), the Resort's festival producers continue to create innovative events at San Luis Obispo's most sought after venues, owned and operated in part by Rossi Enterprises. Other noteworthy 2012 events include the 17th Annual Blues Festival featuring the Doobie Brothers, Tower of Power, and Taj Mahal on Sunday, May 27th as well as the 7th Annual Oaktoberfest hosted by the Avila Beach Golf Resort and Firestone Walker Brewery held October 13th (www.oaktoberfest.com).

While inspired by the holiday that traditionally introduces summer to Central Coasters, the Tequila Festival originated in an effort to shed light on the curious spirit. Katie Manley, the seasoned Director behind the Resort's productions says of the event's conception, "Our ambition is to provide guests with a new experience to taste and learn about tequila from around the world, while kicking off the start of summer. We are gearing up for the beach party of a lifetime!" Aside from making tequila a more accessible spirit by familiarizing the public with it, other goals of the festival include raising funds to support a local Avila Beach non-profit (TBA), and establish a fresh, identifiable event unique to the Central Coast which can be built upon for years to come.

In an effort to truly give patrons a casual, yet authentic, tasting experience, vendors are asked to provide charismatic representatives, displays, and activities to engage and educate guests on the making of, history, or special stories behind their tequila - which the Resort hopes will draw both aficionados and eager amateurs alike. Through an extensive list of tequilas, event patrons are provided the opportunity to master well known brands they might already be familiar with, in addition to learning about smaller, independent labels. Guests of the festival are also invited to vote for their Top Tequila Cocktail via the complimentary tasting card included with all entrance tickets, a competition hosted and endorsed by local bartenders to create mixology-level tequila drinks.

Now with a perfect platform, the neglected spirit shines along the sun at a seasonal venue located in the community which SanLuisObispoCounty.com refers to as it's "warmest beach town."

Sandwiched between two of Avila Beach Golf Resort's historic Memorial Day Weekend activities, a Friday evening Concert (May 25th, musical act TBA) and the 17th Annual Blue's Festival (May 27th), the first ever Avila Beach Tequila Festival is prepared to join and perhaps exceed its counterparts as the focal event of the weekend for county alumni, residents, and beyond.

Tickets go on sale February 6th at 10am and can be purchased at www.Vallitix.com, Boo Boo Records, Paso Robles Fairground box office or by calling 888-825-5484. For questions about the event please call Katie Manley at 805-540-3508. Tickets are $45 and include 10 tastings of tequila, a commemorative tasting glass, and party shades. Event is 21 and over, rain or shine.

See you at the Avila Beach Golf Resort on Saturday, May 26th!
