Harmony Cellars Winery is planning a month long food drive to benefit the San Luis Obispo Food Bank. Wine tasters are encouraged to bring in two non-perishable food items to Harmony's tasting room between January 15 and February 15, 2011. In exchange, donors will receive a complimentary wine tasting. All food items collected in the tasting room will be donated to the local Food Bank in mid February.
Approximately 40,000 local residents either go hungry on a regular basis or don't know when or where they'll get their next meal, according to the San Luis Obispo Food Bank. While Food Banks experience an increase in donations over the holidays, contributions drop off in January. A regular volunteer at Loaves & Fishes (an agency partner of the SLO Food Bank), Harmony Cellars co-owner Kim Mulligan has experienced this need first-hand. "Hunger is a year-round problem. We need and appreciate food donations throughout the year, but especially after the holidays," says Kim.
Harmony Cellars' tasting room is located just off Highway 1 in the town of Harmony. The tasting room is open daily 10am - 5pm. Food donations will be welcomed January 15 - February 15, 2011. 3255 Harmony Valley Road. 805.927.1625. www.HarmonyCellars.com
