As Hemingway used to write... "It was hot. It was very hot."

Summers in the North County can be kind of challenging until you get the right attitude. Saturday, July 31st we're turning the dog days of summer into the Hot Dog Days of Summer with a giant Hot Dog Eating Contest and Sidewalk Sale in the historic downtown Colony District starting at 10:30 a.m.

Atascadero Main Street, Atascadero News and Tastee Freez/Wienerschnitzel will team up to stage the event. There will be five rounds of dog-downing competition featuring a maximum of 10 munchers per round. Each round will be three minutes long. Winners of each round will receive prizes. There is no charge to participate. You must bring your own antacids and selzter :-)

If you're just into munching and not speed-eating, be sure you stroll around the downtown. Participating merchants will be feature sidewalk sales with deep discounts and FREE hot dogs! Cold drinks will be on sale benefitting the local Teens At Work program.

As one person remarked upon hearing about Atascadero's Hot Dog Days of Summer, "This one event that everyone can relish." It will obviously be a day for buns and puns. Hope to see you there!
