I Love Where I Live: A Glass of Wine & Tapas - It's Alegria!

San Luis Obispo's historic downtown is a buzz with activity. It seems most weekends something special is happening in Mission Plaza, and then there is "Art after Dark" the first Friday of the month, not to mention our fabulous Farmers' Market every Thursday evening.

Amongst all this activity, I've discovered a special place I like to escape to for a little serenity, a glass of wine and fresh, local tapas - it's Alegria Wine and Ware. Alegria is located across the street from Mission San Louis de Tolosa at 942 Chorro St. The place has this really hip, modern vibe going on with bold interesting colors and an ever -changing array of art on display.

Best of all are their wines and tapas. Alegria specializes in Spanish and local wines, most with a bottle price point under $25. The owners have a long history in the wine industry that they use in procuring fine wines at good values. They are constantly changing out their inventory, so a visit usually offers up an opportunity to try a wine you may never had heard of - or yet to experience. These folks are "wine geeks" so let the questions fly, they are only too happy to add to your wine education.

Alegria also serves fresh tapas prepared onsite sourced with fresh product from area farms. Their tomato bruschetta tastes like you've just plucked the most perfectly ripe tomato off the vine - we're talking real, honest food. Their mushroom bruschetta is likewise fresh and tasty. I'd be remiss if I failed to mention Christine's brownies. She makes them with Sweet Earth's organic fair trade chocolate and walnuts - they are decadent, downright sinful and awfully delicious!

So, if you're looking for a break amongst the bustle of downtown, stop in at Alegria for a little relaxation and refreshment.
