I Love Where I Live! - Antique Cars, Mission History, Food & Wine
Everyone who knows me knows that only second to my love of food and wine, is my love of history. So imagine the everyday wonder of living in a place such as San Luis Obispo County where we are surrounded by such a plethora of historical places, buildings and the wonderful stories that accompany this rich heritage.
I've done a fair amount of historical research lately to share with our guests on our Central Coast Food Tours. Currently, the tour tastes it's way through downtown San Luis Obispo, but my research included the entire County.
As I poked around the local historical societies: www.historycenterslo.org, www.pasorobleshistoricalsociety.org, www.southcountyhistory.org, and www.cambriahistoricalsociety.com and my favorite, the Paso Robles Pioneer Museum at www.pasoroblespioneermuseum.org, I grew ever more fascinated with the history, people and places of the County.
Now, add to this, the cultural bounty offered up by our local Missions: Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa and Mission San Miguel, and ANY history nut will agree they've found the earthly side of Nirvana.
The point of this post is to share with you a wonderful opportunity to experience my "Top 3 Favorite Things: Food, Wine and History" and it's happening at the RIOS-CALEDONIA ADOBE in San Miguel on June 5th, from 11 - 3 p.m.
I won't go into the history of the Rios-Caledonia Adobe or Mission San Miguel located just across the street, but I will say both are worthy of your time and discovery. And, what better way to do it than roll it up into one fun-filled day hosted by Friends of the Adobe in which you'll get to see beautifully restored antique cars, the Adobe and grounds while enjoying live music, BBQ fixings, and local wine.
It's small town family fun - with a little bit of something for everyone.
