I Love Where I Live: Come Visit Cambria's 3rd Annual Elephant Seal Festival

I've often said that us Central Coast folk can find just about anything to create a celebration or festival - we are happy people! So, why not celebrate our local elephant seals?

If you haven't had the occasion to visit these mammoth creatures at their breeding and birthing ground just north of Cambria, it's a must see. The females weigh as much as 1800 lbs. and the males can reach an amazing 5000 lbs. Watching them cavort among each other, the males challenging each other for breeding rights is a fascinating wonder.

So, yes - I think these magnificent creatures deserve a festival! I've never been, but this year I'm planning to check it out. The festival is scheduled for Saturday, April 21, 2012 from noon to 5:00 p.m. in the heart of Cambria's Historic East Village at 4022 Burton Drive. There will be seafood, a wine & beer garden, arts and crafts vendors and live music starting at 1:30 p.m.

Cheers to the Elephant Seals!
