This year I'm being gifted a long-awaited visit by friends of Irish heritage on, of all days...St. Patrick's Day! As the occasion requires, I've been busy checking out the local food and bar scene to find the perfect place to take them for a little authentic partying in the true spirit of the Irish.
Here's my find(s) for the day: The Black Sheep Bar & Grill and The Buffalo Pub & Grill, both located in downtown San Luis Obispo. I've eaten at these pubs many times and enjoy their food; knowing that the owners are Europeans and carry forward the theme of "pub grub" on their menus, I had a feeling they might be planning something special.
True to form, these folks really get into their food and bar, and their take on a St. Paddy's day celebration promises to be a real bell-ringer:
*Doors open at 6 a.m. on Saturday, March 17th when you'll be offered Matcha Green Tea Morning "Pick-You-Up" Smoothie Shots
*Bar specials will include a "Zen Martini Verde" (Buffalo), Grasshopper Chocolate Mint Martinis (Black Sheep) and both places will have specials on the traditional "Irish Car Bomb", Guinness, Irish Jameson, and both the 12 & 18 year aged Jameson.
*The food specials sound right on with the Traditional Sheppard's Pie, Corned Beef and Cabbage, Corned Beef Sandwiches, a yummy Guinness Reduction Sauce Burger, and Irish Sundae's for dessert.
Doors open at 6 a.m. Food starts at 11:00 a.m. and will be served until 10:00 p.m. with authentic Irish Pipes making appearances throughout the day and evening. Be forewarned: these folks know how to put on a party, and both locations are sure to be packed.
