The Heron Preserve on Morro Bay is in full swing these days. The preserve is located in Morro Bay State Park between the Inn at Morro Bay and the Natural History Museum. Great blue herons, great egrets and double crested cormorants are all currently nesting there and the action is non-stop! Adults are flying in and out of the nests with building materials and some nests already have just hatched young birds. Over the next few weeks the activity will increase as the babies grow and their demand for food increases. There is a short path from the museum parking lot that leads across windy cove to the backside of the preserve, or you can rent a kayak or take a kayak tour from State Park Marina and see the birds from the water. Happy birding!
