As the spring weather begins to arrive in San Luis Obispo County, I start thinking about all of the fun adventures I can go on now that I don't have to worry about the trails being muddy. One of my favorite activities is mountain biking in Montana de Oro. There are so many trails in the area that have varying degrees of difficulty. I recently went on a moderate ride with a friend of mine that took us on the East Boundary trail and the Hazard Peak trail. The view the whole time is just breathtaking; you are across the street from the ocean. You are also on top of some pretty high mountains which allows you to see for a long time up and down the coast and you can see the beautiful mountains that make up this State Park. I am not the most experienced mountain bike rider so some of the sharp turns were challenging but the view was totally worth it. Also, the downhill ride from the top of Hazard Peak is so much fun!! I felt like I was flying! There are also many trails with varying degrees of difficulty for the totally inexperienced to the expert, everyone can have fun mountain biking in Montana de Oro. You can also camp, hike, and horse back ride in Montana de Oro so if mountain biking is not your thing, you can still go there and have a blast!! Also, the town of Los Osos that Montana de Oro is in is so quaint and fun! There is a delicious hamburger restaurant called Sylvester's that is a tiny local hole in-the-wall restaurant that is the perfect end to a hard bike ride. So there is no reason to not visit this beautiful state park on your next trip to San Luis Obispo County!
