On Saturday, May 8, my wife and I once again enjoyed the annual "Day in the Shade" Arts & Crafts & Wine Festival in Templeton. It doesn't get any better than this: see the works of good local artists while sipping wine, with a good local band playing, all in a beautiful tree-filled park. This is always held the Saturday just before Mother's Day, so it is a great opportunity to buy a nice, unique present for your wife / mother. There was lots of jewelry available, but also fused glass art, ceramics, photography, paintings etc.

The great low-key ambience of this fair is impossible to capture on film or video. The artists and the pourers for the wineries (about a dozen present) are always glad to chat about their creations. There is no rush, and no lines. This year I did discover that if you want to meet even MORE people when there, bring your dog. My daughter brought her corgi "Robbie" , and there were lots of other dogs and dog-owners present; all seemed to want to pet him.

The three of us had a great lunch at McPhee's Grill in downtown Templeton before we went to the fair. As usual, the food was excellent, and the place was packed. One of the nice things about downtown Templeton is that it so small that we were able to park right wasy in a spot that was easy walk to both the park and the restaurant.

Following is a photo I took a few years ago of the "Day in the Shade" , but it hasn't changed at all.
