Franz Josef Haydn - String Quartet in B-flat major, op. 76 no. 4 Sunrise Amy Beach - Piano Quintet in F-sharp minor, op. 67 Felix Mendelssohn - String Quintet No. 1 in A major, op. 18
Considered to be the father of the string quartet, Haydn was in Hungary when he wrote his ambitious Sunrise quartet, nicknamed for the rising theme that opens the piece. Mendelssohn’s first string quintet marks an important musical transition from adolescence to maturity, but is still full of his signature youthful vigor. Amy Beach overcame societal borders to become the first successful female American composer of classical music. Generously sponsored by Mary L. Bianco and the MOCA Fund
