Since 1984, Hospice SLO County’s Light up a Life ceremonies have been attended by thousands as a way to remember and honor their loved ones. This year remembering those who have died is critically important to our community and our collective mental and emotional health. Many have not been able to hold or attend funerals or memorial services.
Light Up A Life will take place at 6 PM on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at the Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa. The event will be professionally live streamed and recorded for those unable to attend. The ceremony will include music, poetry, an inspirational message, and the reading of names. There will be a moment of silence for remembering the 250+ people in our county who died from complications from the coronavirus. A candle lighting will take place immediately following the ceremony in the Mission’s garden.
There will be a special ceremony to remember pets on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at 6PM. This ceremony will take place at the Hospice office located at 1304 Pacific Street, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401.
For a $25 donation or more, your loved one's name will be read at the Remembrance Ceremony. You can choose to have a name read "in memory" or "in honor" and that preference will be noted during the ceremony. You may also remember your pet and have its name read aloud in memory or in honor at the special pet ceremony.
