Met Live in HD: Wagner’s Der Fliegende Holländer

Every seven years, der Fliegende Holländer (Flying Dutchman), who is condemned to roam the sea for having defied God, is cast ashore and can seek redemption. Only the love of a faithful woman willing to sacrifice her life for him can release him from his curse.

Valery Gergiev conducts a new production by François Girard. With sweeping sets by John Macfarlane, Girard’s new production turns the Met stage into a rich, layered tableau reminiscent of a vast oil painting.
