Mozart’s Magic Flute was an instant hit at its premiere in 1791 and its popularity and success has kept it on opera stages throughout the world with growing love ever since! The opera tells the story of Prince Tamino’s quest to rescue Pamina, the daughter of the Queen and of the Night, from the high priest, Sarastro. A powerful magic flute and bells help Prince Tamino and his friend Papageno the bird catcher survive the trials of fire and water while learning about brotherhood and justice. This is Mozart at his comic best - rife with an outpouring of famous melodies cascading one after the other, packaged in an irresistible opera perfect for both opera aficionados and families of all ages. This exciting production partners Opera San Luis Obispo with the talents of Civic Ballet San Luis Obispo and Ryan’s Studio-@ American Dance while boasting original sets and costumes, dance, and an internationally acclaimed cast led by tenor Ben Gulley (Tamino), soprano Amy Goymerac (Pamina), baritone Johnathan McCullough (Papageno), soprano Alba Franco-Cancèl (Queen of the Night), and bass Jason Sarten (Sarastro) with the Opera San Luis Obispo Grand Orchestra and Chorus conducted by Artistic Director Brian Asher Alhadeff with stage direction by Edna Garabedian. Pre-show talk by Masonic Grand Master Stephen Doan one hour before performances.
The opera will be sung in German with dialogue in English. Supertitles will project in English during sung portions of the opera.
