Whitney Chaney is the Director of Community Engagement and Advocacy at Visit SLO CAL (VSC), the destination marketing and management organization for San Luis Obispo County (SLO CAL). Born and raised in San Luis Obispo County, Whitney has always been drawn to collaboration and non-profit work. Before joining the organization, Whitney served as the Program Director at Downtown SLO, a business improvement association, where she oversaw the production of the weekly Thursday night Farmers’ Market.
During her tenure at Downtown SLO, Whitney recognized first-hand the importance of travel and tourism as it relates to the local economy, with its mission to support economic vitality. Prior, Whitney also managed the volunteer program for Sundance Institute, most notably overseeing 2,000 + volunteers for the 10-day film festival in Utah.
In her current role at Visit SLO CAL, Whitney brings a deep understanding of the local community and a proven track record of partnership building. She looks forward to continuing to foster the growth and sustainability of SLO CAL while ensuring the local quality of life thrives.
Outside of the office, Whitney loves attending live music events and heading to the mountains in the winter for snowboarding. She starts her days running with her dog Ellie and enjoys spending time with her family whenever possible. On the weekends, Whitney can often be found in the kitchen trying her hand at new baking recipes or exploring the region's incredible wineries. She is a champion for community and a fierce advocate for mentoring the next generation of community leaders. Whitney is thrilled to be part of the inspiring and passionate team at Visit SLO CAL.
