At The Mayan Collective, the best products (100% natural soy wax, wooden wick) are chosen and brought together to create clean candles – handcrafted and healthy to have in your home! Sip, melt & pour at The Mayan Collective. Enjoy a charcuterie box and complementary drink followed by a DIY candle pouring workshop. Throughout you’ll learn about all things candles including type of waxes, smelling notes and more. Create your one-of-a-kind candle by mixing your own scent (up to three oils) and pouring a 14 oz soy wax candle to take home. This activity is great for a private party celebration (which comes with your own custom label for your candle vessels) and perfect for the whole family – The Mayan Collective offers candle making classes that use cooler temperature wax for kids too!
Sustainability is part of the DNA of SLO CAL. Using eco-friendly products and promoting zero waste, The Mayan Collective champions sustainable business practices. Their locally made vessels can be recycled and reused – head to the Refill Station in Arroyo Grande to refill your candles or refill bottles with unscented hand soap, detergent, dish soap, shampoo, conditioner and more! Don’t forget to stop at the Fragrance Bar for custom scent blends to add to your body and household products.
The Mayan Collective pours their candles in small batches to ensure top quality control. There are also some tips and tricks you can use to make sure that your candle lasts as long as possible – include lighting your candle in a well-ventilated room away from breezes, keeping your wick trimmed and avoiding burning your candle for too short of duration. Owners Karla and Spencer come from a background in health care – evident in their dedication to keeping your health at the forefront of their candle making. Karla starting handmaking candles as a token of her appreciation to her photography clients, which grew into a business venture of its own. The Mayan Collective was named in celebration of Karla’s Guatemalan culture and to represent the people that they are serving – 20% of all their proceeds from sales go to families facing hardship in Guatemala.
