Tucked next door to a hair salon and a business that fixes garage doors, tiny La Casita - translated to The Cottage - isn’t about location or atmosphere. What this super casual dining spot is best at is this: some of the most authentic Mexican food around, run by a young family that cooks like-homemade dishes traditional and original. Purists love typical combination plates with enchiladas, tamales and tacos, but La Casita also serves shrimp sauteed in a lemon wine sauce, and grilled cod with avocado and onions. Enchilada variations include Nina's Enchilada, stuffed with diced chile relleno, and Enchiladas Isabella, made with ground beef and jack cheese. The mango, strawberry and pineapple smoothies served in icy glass mugs are terrific, as are the never-ending baskets of hot chips and signature salsa, which can also be purchased in to-go glass jars.
